Who is Dr. Maggie Hani?
Dr. Maggie Hani, a pioneering dentist caring for people with disabilities and special needs
Dentist Dr. Maggie Hany is a pioneer in providing special care in Egypt, including those with disabilities, mental and physical needs, learning disabilities, hyperactivity, autism, all syndromes, dental phobia, cancer patients, the morbidly obese, the elderly, and others.
Since beginning her practice in 2012, Maggie has observed the difficulties these groups face in obtaining the healthcare they need, which inspired her to study their needs and determine how to provide them with this care.
By 2017, she had accumulated extensive knowledge in the field of special care dentistry as a specialized medical field, and had written a specialized research paper in this field, which was ranked third internationally by Istanbul University.
I then enrolled in a diploma program in Special Education and Healthcare Quality Management at the American University in Cairo, and received training in the Special Needs Dentistry Unit at Kajang Hospital in Malaysia, New York University (Asian Dental Clinics for People with Disabilities), and the University of Pennsylvania in the USA.
Maggie attended the International Association for Disability and Oral Health conference in Dubai in 2018, where she was the only Egyptian at the conference. She also co-founded the Arab Association for Disability and Oral Health in the Middle East, and was the youngest dental clinic director at the Special Olympics Games in Egypt since 2019.
Maggie established a special care dental clinic and provides oral health education to parents and children with special needs in schools and institutions.
Can dental treatment be performed under general anesthesia?
Special needs patients are treated under local or general anesthesia without any risk to the patient's health. Necessary laboratory tests are performed prior to surgery to ensure the patient's condition to enter the operating room. An anesthesiologist is present throughout the procedure to ensure the patient's well-being.

Why Special Care Dentistry Matters
Neglecting oral health can lead to:
Pain and infection
Difficulty eating or speaking
Worsening of systemic health conditions
Special Care Dentistry ensures that no patient is left untreated due to fear, disability, or medical complexity.
